I’m having the same conversation with a lot of people right now. They are usually mid-career professionals, aged somewhere between 35 and 65. They feel restless and frustrated, but also a little excited about a possibility for their future they can sense, but not quite see.

The conversation goes something like this…

I feel stuck and am looking for a change.

I know I’m not reaching my full potential.

I’m not quite sure what it looks like, but I know I have a lot more to offer.

I feel trapped and bored – my employer likes what I am doing for them and doesn’t want me to change.

I feel overlooked – I know I can do better than a lot of the executives above me, but I am just seen as a manager and a doer.

I’m not as confident as I used to be – I feel that my career is stalled and that others are overtaking me. I want to start moving again. I want to regain my confidence and momentum.

I feel it’s time to make a change.

I’m excited (and a little scared).

This is the language of smart, ambitious and curious people looking for help to transform their world. To show up at their best in work and life.

If this resonates, know that you are not alone. I have spent the last decade having these conversations and helping people to unlock their next chapter. The events of the last 18 months have significantly increased the number of people asking these important questions and looking to take action to find answers.

These are transformational times. There has never been a better chance to re-set. It requires courage. The rewards for stepping out are immense (as are the costs of doing nothing). As David Bowie said.

“If you feel safe in the area in which you are working, you are not working in the right area
Always go a little further into the water – go a little bit out of your depth. When you don’t feel your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the place to do something exciting”
